What is AET?
Paired with public education and prevention efforts, Alcohol Enforcement Teams (AETs) work to reduce underage alcohol use and its harmful effects. Enforcing existing laws that limit youth access is a critical prevention tool, and partnerships between prevention agencies and law enforcement can achieve some of the most effective and lasting results.
The Alcohol Enforcement Team project is a collaborative effort involving the Office of Substance Use Disorders (OSUS), the county alcohol and drug abuse authorities, local law enforcement agencies, and community partners.
The AET project implements environmental strategies to reduce alcohol access to individuals under 21 years old through high visibility enforcement in conjunction with an active public education and prevention strategy. Enforcement strategies include retailer compliance checks and public safety checkpoints. Sumter Behavioral Health Services coordinates the AET project with the 3rd Judicial Circuit (Sumter, Clarendon, Lee, and Williamsburg Counties).
